A finely hand-knotted Persian Tabriz carpet dating to the mid-20th century, crafted in north-west Iran—one of the most historically significant centers of carpet weaving.

This piece is executed in high-grade kork wool, derived from the soft underfleece of the sheep’s neck, prized for its exceptional fineness, durability, and subtle natural sheen.   The use of such premium material allows for an unusually high knot density, enabling crisp articulation of intricate design elements and refined detailing.

The carpet displays a classic central medallion composition, with a richly ornamented field of scrolling arabesques, palmettes, and stylized floral motifs arranged in perfect bilateral symmetry. The deep navy ground is enlivened by ivory, crimson, and soft pastel accents, creating depth and visual harmony. A multi-layered border system frames the composition, featuring densely packed floral vines and rosettes that enhance the overall balance and elegance.

Tabriz carpets are renowned for their wide range of sophisticated designs—from medallion layouts to highly intricate floral patterns—and for their technical precision and artistic refinement.   This example reflects that tradition, combining classical Persian aesthetics with meticulous craftsmanship.
